This free event will feature performances by Crescendo faculty and students, exhibits by local visual artists, food from local vendors, games and activities for children, and the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra petting zoo.
The musical performances include Crescendo instructors Mark Portolese (violin and piano), Sarah Hedlund (violin), Joanna Steinhauser (violin), Luke Cook (cello), Jesse Williams (clarinet), Mira Shifrin (flute), Jackie Zito (guitar), and Miles Kusik (guitar). “Among the featured events of the afternoon will be a demonstration class of Crescendo’s Music Together program – an internationally recognized early childhood program in which teachers introduce preschool children to the pleasures of making music in a relaxed, playful, non-performance-oriented setting,” says Artistic Director Audrey Lipsey. “Children’s will also be able to try instruments in the petting zoo that will be provided by the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra.”
Other activities for children include face painting, a scavenger hunt, and making their own musical instrument to take home.
Crescendo Cafe and Open House will also offer a variety of family-friendly food and beverage samples from local restaurants. “Our goal is for this event to be fun for the whole family, while showcasing the depth of programs available to children and adults alike,” Lipsey added.
