Mrs. Cervantes-Hickman is a music educator for the Kalamazoo Public schools. She has taught K-5 elementary general music in the Kalamazoo Public School system since 2002. Mrs. Cervantes-Hickman is an active member of the West Michigan Orff Chapter and holds a Level I Certification from Anderson University. As an educator, she is interested in the connections of music and brain development. She enjoys integrating social studies, world music, movement, art and other disciplines into her elementary school classes.
Prior to teaching in the public schools, Mrs. Cervantes-Hickman taught early childhood music classes at the Michigan State University Community Music School. She was first introduced to Music Together in Kalamazoo as a parent, as she attended classes with her daughter at Crescendo Academy of Music. She has returned to teaching early childhood classes and strongly believes that music at an early age is crucial for social, cognitive, physical and musical development in all children.
She is married to Kip Hickman, Principal Trombone Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, and they have three daughters.
