Laura Tribby graduated with both trumpet and voice performance degrees in April 2013 and began teaching at Crescendo the following May. At WMU, she studied with Scott Thornburg (trumpet), Kenneth Prewitt, Elizabeth Stoner Cameron, and Monica Griffin Hunter (voice), and enjoyed performing in numerous ensembles, including the University Chorale, Cantus Femina, Collegiate Singers, Concert Band, Grand Chorus, Collegium Musicum, Light Bright Brass Quintet, and Birds on a Wire. She also participated in Opera Workshop for five semesters and enjoyed the roles of Nancy in Albert Herring (2011) and Ma Moss in The Tender Land (2012). In 2012, Laura spent six weeks studying opera in Graz, Austria at the American Institute of Vocal Studies. She has attended several other summer music programs/camps, such as the Oberlin Trumpet Institute, the Indiana University Summer Music Clinic, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and Culver Academy Summer Camp.
A native of Kalamazoo, Laura sang with the Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus for ten years and was in the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra for two years. She began private studies with Keith Geiman and Shannon Scoles at Crescendo Academy of Music. She loves making music in Kalamazoo and frequently plays trumpet and sings in local churches. She has placed second at regional and state NATS competitions and Bach Festival Young Vocalists competitions. Other awards include honorable mention in Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra Youth Soloist auditions, Bravo! Competition winner and selected soloist for a WMUK Radio Broadcast.
Laura delights in traveling and outdoor activities, such as camping and swimming, and is an avid biker, hiker, hula-hooper, and scuba diver.
