2013 Summer Programs Announced!

April 29, 2013  Crescendo Academy of Music has a summer full of activities for kids! The Crescendo Fiddlers kick-off the summer season with a play-in event on May 31 at 6:00 pm. Returning for the second year is a summer chamber ensemble program for both string and wind students in middle and high school. Mixed Age Music Together classes continue with an 8-week summer session starting in June. Big Kids Music Makers, a continuation of the Music Together Mixed Age class, is a new program at Crescendo, and also begins in June.

Spotlight on Youth Competition Features Crescendo Students

February 19, 2012  The Kalamazoo Alumnae Chapter of SIGMA ALPHA IOTA will present its annual Spotlight on Youth Competition recital on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 3 pm at Dalton Center on the campus of Western Michigan University. This recital recognizes outstanding vocalists and instrumentalists from elementary school age through the eighth grade. This year, the recital will feature three Crescendo students:  Lee Lanting, violin, student of Sarah Hedlund; Claire Holley, oboe, student of Gabriel Renteria; and Erik Rumsa, violin, student of Mark Portolese. The public is invited to attend this free recital and celebrate the accomplishments of all the students.

2013 Bravo! Concert Will Feature Crescendo Student

February 15, 2013 2013 Bravo! performances showcase the best musical talent of local high school students, grades 9-12. These students, selected by a panel of judges, will perform live at a Bravo! concert, and selections from the performance are broadcast at a later date on WMUK 102.1FM.

The concert will be held on Tuesday, March 5th, 2013 at 7:00 pm at the Wellspring Theater (Epic Center, 2nd floor), 359 S. Kalamazoo Mall, downtown Kalamazoo. Luke Mauer, a classical guitar student of instructor Miles Kusik, will be showcased on this performance.

Crescendo Receives a Minigrant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs to Create a Partnership with Kalamazoo Public Schools

December 20, 2012 The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) has awarded a grant to Crescendo to create a partnership with Kalamazoo Public Schools’ (KPS) high school orchestra programs. This program will be coordinated by KPS orchestra instructor Sandy Shaw. Crescendo instructors Luke Cook (cello) and Joanna Steinhauser (violin) will coach student chamber ensembles; these ensembles will then present concerts for area school programs and cultural events. Funds for this program are also provided by KRESA Education for the Arts. More details on performances will be announced as they become available.

Irving S. Gilmore Foundation Continues To Support Crescendo

November 30, 2012 The Irving S. Gilmore Foundation remains committed to supporting Crescendo in 2012-2013 with a generous grant to help fund the organization’s operating expenses. The Gilmore Foundation was instrumental in establishing Crescendo in its permanent home in the Epic Center, and has continued to be a valued partner in Crescendo’s growth.
