Epic Broadway! Musical Theater Camp

Epic Broadway! is a collaboration between Crescendo Academy of Music and Wellspring/Cori Terry & Dancers. 2019 focus:  TBA

When:  June 24-28, 2019 9 am – 4 pm; Finale Showcase on Friday night
Where:  Crescendo Academy of Music and Wellspring Theater
Who:  Students age 13-18

Students will:
Develop musical theater dance technique
Receive individual voice lessons working on solos and/or duets
Learn the basics of character development and staging
Learn and stage large ensemble music
Perform in the Finale Showcase on Friday, June 28 at 7 pm in the Wellspring Theater

Cost:  $295   Register and pay by May 1 for an Early Bird discount of $20!

Introduction to Ukulele–New Class!

A 6-week introductory class for beginning players ages 7-12 in a small group setting led by Alfredo Balcacer. Topics include: proper playing position, the “basic” or “common” strumming stroke, reading ukulele music and tablature, and commonly played chords and rhythms. The class will focus on basic skills and techniques with an emphasis on having fun while learning. The session will end with a performance for family and friends.

Cost: $75

Chamber Music Ensembles

The Crescendo Chamber Music Program for school-age instrumentalists will begin its summer session in June. Crescendo Chamber Ensembles are for students interested in exploring chamber music repertoire. Placement in a group is based on playing level and age; groups include duos, trios, quartets, quintets and more. Membership is open to students of all instruments including voice. Rehearsals culminate in an August recital. Cost for the Chamber Music Program is $20 per one-hour coaching session. Ensemble coaches include, Mark Portolese (violin/piano), Luke Cook (cello), Silvia Sidorane McClish (cello), Audrey Lipsey (violin), Darren Chan (viola/violin), Michelle Bessemer (violin), Jesse Williams (clarinet), Stephanie Measzros (flute), Gabriel Renteria-Elyea (oboe),  Dan Willenberg (jazz/piano). Cost for the Chamber Music Program is $20 per one-hour coaching session; most ensembles have six coachings per summer.  Financial aid applications are available here. Crescendo Fiddlers 

The Crescendo Fiddlers kick off their summer season on June 12! Classes for the summer session will meet weekly on Mondays, 6:30 – 7:30 pm from June 18 to August 20. Director Joanna Steinhauser teaches folk fiddle music from various cultures, including Celtic, American, Canadian, Scandinavian, and Chinese styles. The ensemble welcomes violin, viola, and cello players of all ages who have played for at least three years. In addition to weekly classes, the Crescendo Fiddlers perform throughout the summer at regional folk music festivals, community events and farmers’ markets. Cost for the summer session is $200 (includes t-shirt and music binder).

Crescendo Community Voices

Community Voices offers musical experiences for teens and adults with special needs and the people who care for them and love them. This team-taught choir is led by Cynthia Cross, Board certified music therapist; Corlis Watkins, KRESA-YAP choir director; and Marcia Working, certified Orff Schulwerk educator. CCV participants experience singing, chanting, drumming and an introduction to Orff Schulwerk which stresses making music in a non-competitive atmosphere. Weekly meetings will be held at Crescendo Academy of Music (Studio 19) on Thursdays at 3:00 pm. Cost for the summer session is $30.

Music Together Mixed Ages

Music Together® is an internationally recognized early childhood music program offering 45 minutes of pure musical fun for you and your child each week. Accredited teachers introduce children to the pleasures of making music in a relaxed, playful, non-performance-oriented setting. You’ll receive CDs and songbooks tied to each session’s unique experiences for use at home. The national program’s e-newsletter, web resources and online store provide additional support for enriching your child’s and your family’s musical growth and enjoyment.
