The Crescendo Academy Orff Studio
Instructor: Marcia Working
Musical skills are developed using movement, voice, drumming and instrument ensembles.
The Crescendo Academy Orff Studio provides group music lessons to students ages 5 to adult. Students have the opportunity to experience and learn music through movement, instrument ensembles and voice. The goal is to develop fundamental musicianship by experiencing pulse, rhythm, melody, harmony, form and timbre. These skills allow students the freedom to express one’s own musical ideas as well as others.
What is Orff? Orff Schulwerk is a philosophy of music education developed by the Bavarian composer, Carl Orff and his colleague, Gunild Keetman in 1920. The philosophy is based on things children do naturally—sing, chant rhymes, clap, dance and keep a beat on anything close at hand. Improvisation is emphasized as fostering student creativity is essential. Lessons are designed to give students the opportunity to explore a concept, cultivate it, and create with it. Students will use classroom instruments such as xylophones, glockenspiels, drums, other unpitched percussion as well as body percussion and voice. Older students will use recorders as well. Music literacy develops as students experience concepts in sequenced manner, in a non-competitive environment. You can see more here.
