Summer Programs

Crescendo Academy of Music offers different summer music programs for students interested in continuing their music education year-round.

Epic Broadway! Musical Theater Camp (ages 13-18)

Epic Broadway! is a collaboration between Crescendo Academy of Music and Wellspring Dance Academy.

Join us for a week–or two!–of specialized training and education in Vocal Musical Theater!

Work with Teaching Artists who have spent decades teaching and coaching singers in vocal technique and performance specifically for the musical stage.

This unique experience will include:

  • Daily Voice Lessons working on a Musical Theater solo/duet
  • Learning the basics of Character Development and Staging
  • Dance class with a member of the Wellspring Dance professional company
  • Meeting other campers who have the same passion for musical theater
  • A Concert Performance on Friday evening

Class Session:

Two one-week sessions will be offered in 2025:

Week 1: July 7 – July 11 The Animated Songbook

Week 2: July 14 – July 18 Growing Up Broadway Style

 

Class Days and Times:

Camp activities will take place between 9 am and 4 pm each day. Prior to the start of the week, each camper will choose, in collaboration with our vocal teaching artists, a musical theater song that fits the camp’s theme. Monday’s schedule will start with an Orientation Session. The week will culminate in a group Concert for sharing with family and friends that will begin at 7 PM on Friday.

Class Fees:

$450   (Register and pay by June 1 for an Early Bird discount of $25)

Crescendo Fiddlers

Directors: Timothy Cuffman

Crescendo Fiddlers is for string players of all instruments, ages, and levels of experience to explore musical styles outside of the classical music tradition. Director Timothy Cuffman will lead classes in American and Celtic fiddle music as well as Blues and Jazz. There will be opportunities for class members to learn new techniques and to experiment with improvisation. Crescendo Fiddlers will perform throughout the summer at community events. Join us for a fun summer of playing great music!

Intro to fiddling: Elementary school age with at least a school year of experience playing the instrument

Next-Level Fiddling: Middle school and older with at least a year of experience playing the instrument

Crescendo Fiddlers: At least 2-3 years of playing experience.

Open to violin, viola, cello, and bass players.

Class Session:

2025 Crescendo Fiddlers meet from June 16- August 11

Class Days and Times:

All class meet Monday evenings
Intro to Fiddling 5:00 – 5:45 pm
Next-Level Fiddling 6:00 – 6:45 pm
Crescendo Fiddlers 7:00 – 8:00 pm

Class Fees:

$150 for Intro to Fiddling & Next-Level Fiddling

$175 for Crescendo Fiddlers

Training for Orchestra

Instructor: Audrey Lipsey

This class is for students with one to two years of experience playing a stringed instrument. In this introductory ensemble, students will learn basic orchestral techniques to help prepare them for school orchestra in the fall and advanced ensembles.

Tuesdays, June 17 – July 29
4:30 – 6:00 pm

Class Fees:

$150 for the 7-week class

Chamber Music Ensembles

Crescendo Chamber Ensembles are for students of all instruments including voice interested in exploring chamber music repertoire. Placement in a group is based on playing level and age. Complete an Interest Form to be placed in a group.

Groups include duos, trios, quartets, quintets, and more. Rehearsals culminate in an August recital. Ensemble coaches are Crescendo Teaching Artists.

Class Fees:

$120 for 6 coaching sessions over the summer weeks (additional charges may apply for extra coachings)

Workshops & Masterclasses

Instructors: guest artists

Workshop topics will vary; watch this page for details. Topics will include string instrument skills (vibrato, shifting, etc.), improvisation, aural skills, music theory, introduction to a new instrument, and more.

Masterclasses provide an opportunity for area student musicians to observe and learn from professional artists. Performance is by audition only. They are open to the public to attend.
