Syd West

Voice

Syd West has a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Irving S. Gilmore School of Music at Western Michigan University. He has performed five lead roles in operas at WMU, was a member of WMU’s University Chorale, and performed as Count Almaviva in “Le Nozze di Figaro” by Mozart at the Brancaleoni International Music Festival in Italy. His repertoire list includes both tenor and baritone music.

In addition to teaching voice, Syd currently works at First Congregational Church as the tenor section leader and at OutFront Kalamazoo as Operations Assistant. He is passionate about providing comfortable and accepting spaces for any student to grow and learn as a singer. His primary goals in teaching are to help each student with their individual goals, strengthen their unique voice in healthy ways, and build confidence.
